Join Australia’s largest and longest-running independent games festival.

The Freeplay Independent Games Festival is seeking nominations for its Board of Directors. We seek passionate candidates to play a role in the stewardship and development of the Freeplay Organisation, and our Independent Games Festival and events. The Board usually meets six times a year. All our board members are volunteers. We invite interest from qualified candidates with the skill sets, experience and resources necessary to assist us in the sustainable, transparent, and efficient governance of this exciting cultural organisation.

Freeplay is a place where anyone who wishes to contribute meaningfully and in good faith can have a chance to do so, and prides itself on finding voices that are not always heard.

About Freeplay

Freeplay is Australia’s longest-running and largest independent games festival, located in Melbourne, Australia. Freeplay draws Australia’s independent games community together at its conference, public events program, arcade, and awards. The festival joins players, makers, critics, artists, designers, coders, academics, students, and families for a critical celebration of the artistry of games and playful culture.

Available roles

All board members should have an interest in videogames, games culture, and the industry in Australia and beyond. Working experience in games, events or relevant fields is a plus but not required.

Interested candidates are asked to fill in the form below and submit a letter of intent along with a CV/Resume for the following roles:

Secretary:

  • Legal compliance
  • Contractual obligations
  • Conditions of funding
  • Corporate governance and reporting

Finance Officer:

  • Strategic financial planning
  • Building partnerships
  • Communications, public relations, marketing

General Board Member:

  • General or specialist experience in events, communications, creative fields, the cultural and arts sector, or any other relevant areas
