2010 Awards – Judges

Grant MeredithGrant Meredith, Lecturer, University of Ballarat

Grant Meredith is a lecturer and researcher with the Graduate School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Ballarat. Grant lectures in multimedia and computer games design related courses. At the moment he is engaged within virtual world research and development for both pedagogical and simulation purposes. In his spare time Grant produce/direct short films, and collects and plays old game consoles. For some reason Grant is particularly interested in 1st and 2nd generation gaming with a real focus on Pong and associated clones.

Tom JohnstoneTom Johnstone

Tom Johnstone has worked for the likes of Criterion Games, Evolution Studios and Rockstar Games on franchises such as Burnout, Motorstorm, GTA, Midnight Club and Red Dead Redemption. He is currently going back to study a Master of Architecture and freelancing as a graphics/systems programmer for a handheld and mobile phone games company Double 11 formed by ex-Rockstar employees and based in the UK. Previous to this he worked in Rockstar’s core technology team, primarily focussing on PS3 R+D and providing support to all studios worldwide.

Anna DunneAnna Dunne

Anna is the representative for Australian Gamer based in Melbourne and often visits Melbourne studios for exclusive coverage of local developers and has been writing to provide reviews, event coverage and features for the site since 2006. She has also been involved in previous events of Freeplay and the E-Games Expo. Her favourite games usually are either Strategy or of the Role Playing genres though currently her love of the developer, Bioware, has kept her spending her time waiting to be given a beta key to the next instalment of Star Wars: The Old Republic. She often writes insightful and interesting commentary on the games industry and female positions with in it, as well as great reviews of more obscure games.

Mark FlanaganMark Flanagan, Games Artist

Mark has over 25 years experience in the creative industries, having moved from architecture to games ten years ago.  He has worked for leading developers in the UK and Australia, contributing to award winning and AAA titles for consoles from the PS2 to the current generation. His game credits include three “Colin McRae Rally” titles, “Bboy”, “Heatseeker”, “Ashes Cricket 2009” and “Heroes Over Europe”. Recently he has been focussed on the training of game artists, and is currently engaged in a number of consultancy roles, whilst also working on independent film and games projects. In 2009, he helped to re-establish the Melbourne chapter of the IGDA, and continues to be involved in the administration of the association.
