Playful Program
For the first time, Freeplay is stretching itself out beyond the weekend. Join us for some playful and boisterous events that take games out of their traditional confines and into the streets and bars of Melbourne.
The Games That Made Me – Wednesday August 17, 8:00 – Bella Union, Trades Hall
Speakers include:
A life is a collection of experiences. Books, films, trips overseas on holiday, people kissed, people not kissed, moments of joy, moments of loss. And in amongst all of that, there’s time to play videogames. Join our speakers for an evening of Pecha Kucha style talks (20 slides, 20 seconds each, auto-advancing) about the games that made them who they are.
Lemon Joust Club – Thursday August 18, 7:30 – Rue Bebelons
There are rumours in the seedier parts of town of groups who get together with spoons and lemons and take part in competitions of skill and strategy. The word jousting has been used to describe it. But so has flailing. And citrusy. And ridiculous. Descend into the yellow underbelly of the city and see if you have what it takes to be victorious in Lemon Joust Club. (Thanks to Coney for inspiration.)
A Musical interlude – Friday August 19, 7:30 – Gertrude’s Brown Couch
Come break open the quiet moment before the festival with a night of videogame inspired music.
Technodrome is a group of four guys with a passion for music, and a love of all things nerdy. Naturally, they combined the two to form a band that plays music from video games, TV shows, and other such dorktastic endeavours!
Chiptunes DJs /via Soundbytes - CTrix, Derris-Kharlan, Pselodux and Maddest Kings Alive
